The music section opened the first Guernsey Eisteddfod on 1st November 1922. Over the years, we have seen thousands of amateur performers compete in a variety of classes, many of who have gone on to make successful careers in music on the worldwide stage.

Our aim is to provide a diverse range of classes from ‘highbrow’ to ‘pop’ thus hoping to appeal to all ages of the community.

During the Festival we also try to make each session a mini concert’ so that no matter what your preferred musical taste, you have the opportunity to see different types of performances all in one go! However, without doubt, the Songs from the Shows classes prove to be most popular and during these sessions we frequently have full to capacity audiences.

We want all of our competitors to enjoy the experience of performing and whilst we never wish to lose sight of the traditional competitive culture of the festival, we strive to create an atmosphere of entertainment. This is often shown in the good-natured support from all the participants towards each other and the continued enthusiastic response from our audiences.

If you’ve always wondered what it would be like to perform on the stage, click on the link below to view the multitude of classes in our syllabus.

“The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing!”
